Do you need product categories?
Product categories are optional. Their purpose is to help you organize your product list. You can configure any number of category levels, but you must create parent categories before sub-categories.
If you are going to use categories, set them up before entering products into the Products table. Then associate a product category with each item that you add.
NOTE If you import a product list, any categories not already in the system will be created automatically.
How to...
Add a product category or sub-category
- To open the page, use the path(s) in the Security and navigation section above.
- Click New or, to add a sub-category to an existing category, select Add Sub-category from the context menu of the parent category. The New Product Category page opens.
- Complete the following fields:

| Name | Enter a name for your category. |
| Description | Enter an optional description of your category. |
| Parent Category | All possible parent categories are listed with their name and path. Select a parent product category. Refer to Data selector windows. |
| Default Device Type | Device types allow you to classify and organize devices. For example, for workstations you may want to use Device Type to clarify if it is a laptop or a desktop, or if it is company property or personally owned. Device Type is also used by the IT Glue integration to determine what to sync and how to label devices in IT Glue.Select an Device Type from the drop-down list. Refer to Device types. |
- Click Save & Close. The new category will appear (underneath its parent category, if applicable), with the number of products associated with it in parentheses.
NOTE Clicking the number of products in the Products in Category column will open the list of products associated with the category.
Use the context menu
- Click the context menu icon
and select one of the following options:

|---|---|
| Edit | Edit the category. |
| Copy | Make a copy of the category. Only the category itself is copied, not the sub-categories or product associations. |
| Add Sub-category | Add a sub-category under the selected category. |
| Delete | Delete the category. If you delete a parent category, all sub-categories will also be deleted. Any products related to the category or sub-category will have their association to the category removed. |
